GRASS AT THE OVAL

An exciting new chapter for Cliftonville as the Oval Bandstand and Lawns is awarded to GRASS

We are thrilled to announce, after months of hard work and preparation, that GRASS has been awarded The Oval Bandstand and surrounding area as a community asset transfer from Thanet council.

It’s been a long road which we embarked on over a year ago, but with this announcement we are overwhelmed with excitement and hope for the future of this iconic piece of Cliftonville coastline.

The council has placed its faith in GRASS to be suitable custodians of the land, which has such a rich history within Thanet and UK seaside culture and heritage.

The news allows us to initiate a number of new projects and to start building on existing ones – there is much to do but we are determined as a organisation firmly rooted in our community that this amazing space will be a truly inclusive community-first space that celebrates our beautiful, vibrant coastline, and diverse demographic.

GRASS has already hosted a number of free events at the Oval, including the Cliftonville Games and a summer season of outdoor cinema screenings. We have proved beyond doubt that the bandstand and surrounding area can once again thrive, and we look forward to restoring this stunning community asset back to its former glory for the benefit of all.

We would like to thank Thanet council for their co-operation and look forward to engaging with the community to start the next exciting chapter in the Oval’s illustrious history.
